Social Networking and Teenage Daughters

I've come to realize that teenage daughters need more attention and guidence then most, if not all, toddlers.  With so much exposure thru social networking, computers and cell phones it's really hard to keep their attention on the important things in life. What are some of the ways you handle keeping them safe and informed of potential dangers?

  2. I think there's a lot of over exposure happening and it's not only at home. Even at school my daughter is inundated with sexual as well as violent content thru cell phones, laptops and mobile devices. They're learning WAY too much at a young age but what are they really being taught? Altough I can't be with her every minute of the day I try and communicate the dangers as well as the reprecussions and consequences of over exposing yourself. This goes for texting, pictures and the language she uses. One way of protecting is having the password and codes to computers and cell phones. I'd just like to prevent and prepare in the case something DOES happen....I'd take teething babies over this any day! lol

  3. Dawn...this is seriously making me want to go hug Maddy for merely being sassy. I'm absolutely not ready to handle ANY of the teenage stuff--as if one is ever truly ready. I'm glad you are such a conscientious and involved mom though..so many kids lack that and only get their info from their peers and the media, which is sensationalized and lacks real life consequences. This open dialogue is so great and I'll store all your wisdom for the future, since I'll no doubt need every bit of it! xoxo

  4. you should have her talk to a public figure or another teen that has been through this. Rob has seen alot of the good and bad that comes with this kind of thing. She is a pretty smart girl just making some choices that needs reworked away from certain friends.

  5. I couldn't agree more! Being a working mom and not being able to sensor or filter all that these kids see and hear is super hard! Staying aware and informed and always keeping an open dialogue no matter how hard it is to hear really helps a lot!
